For the last 30 years the Flow Health Care Foundation has given away Grants to Denton County Health Providers.
This year we will
exceed $5 million dollars
in total funding since inception.
We have Heroes that have served on the Flow Health Care Foundation Board for years and made it possible to continue funding our Health Care Providers.
Dr. Bettye Myers and
Dr. Bill Geise
Part of our mission is to invest in Health and Wellness Education. We are very proud to offer the Holly Hervey Memorial Scholarship to both Texas Women's University and the University of North Texas.
In 2019, Flow Health Care Foundation lost two of its founding members. The willingness to serve and a empathetic heart motivated both of these individuals to attempt to make the
world a better place.
We were lucky to have them and they will be missed. They left behind a legacy of service that we hope to continue.
Anyone involved in Denton County Health Care knows Ms. Bettye. She was a force of nature and bundle of energy. She helped start many of the Non-Profits that exist today. Ms. Bettye acted as our Board President for many years. We have dedicated a Grant in her name. The Bettye Myers Memorial Grant was given for the to First Refuge Ministries in the amount of $20,000 on December 4, 2019 .
Dr. Geise used his time and accounting acumin to help steer the Foundation's Financial path. In his spare time he researched stocks, compared interest rates and calculated returns of possible investments. Our portfolio today has grown to over $5 Million dollars, a large part due to the diligence of Mr. Geise. The James W 'Bill' Giese Memorial Grant was awarded to UNT the Child and Family Resource Clinic. for $20,000 on December 4, 2019.
Holly Hervey, for whom this scholarship is named, became a resident of Denton in 1956 and as we like to say,” The rest is history.”
In 1960 she graduated with a B.S. degree in Speech Therapy and her Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1975 from Texas Woman’s University. Between working on her degrees, Holly worked for a short time as a Speech Therapist. After realizing that the profession was not for her, she changed careers and went to work for an insurance company in Dallas for a while. In 1975 she became an accounting supervisor at Flow Memorial Hospital, where she remained until it closed as a hospital. The money from its sale was used to create the Flow Health Care Foundation to honor Mr. Flow’s desire that health care be provided to those in need, even if they didn’t have the money to pay for it.
Holly served as the financial manager for The Flow Health Care Foundation from its beginning, assisting with the distribution of annual grant monies to a variety of Denton County 501c3 agencies providing health care services to those in need.
On January 9, 2014, Holly unexpectedly left us all to “carry on” without her. In her honor, the Board of Trustees of the Flow Health Care Foundation has established a Holly Hervey Memorial Scholarship Fund in agreement with Texas Woman’s University.
Melissa Bittner was in her second year as a PhD Candidate in Adapted Physical Education at Texas Woman’s University and served as the Graduate Assistant for the Office of Special Education Programs in the Kinesiology Department.
